Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®)

Improve your Performance Review Process

SDI Triangle

Good quality business relationships promote equally good quality business results.

Companies which suffer from poor communication, decreased team performance, inter or intra team conflict will notice the impact of these relationship issues on their overall company performance and profit.

This is where the Strength Deployment Inventory® (SDI®) can help both business and individuals.

The SDI® is different from other self-awareness tools that look at behaviour, at one point in time, as a predictor of future behaviour. The SDI® looks at what motivates a person and how his/her priorities change in the face of opposition or conflict. It is based on more than 30 years of research by psychologist Elias H. Porter and although many personality theories are about people, this theory was designed for people. The tool is extremely practical, versatile and easy to understand. It creates a language that cuts through cultural and hierarchical barriers. (Explanation of SDI®)

In short, the SDI® can have an immediate and long lasting impact on improving the quality of relationships within teams and organisations in any environment.

Who can use the SDI®?

The SDI® can be used with any level of team or manager, including junior, middle, senior and executive management. Whether you want to kick-start a newly formed team, are looking to develop your existing team or want to enhance leadership skills, the versatility of the Strength Deployment Inventory can really help with improving motivation and the quality of relationships.

How can you apply the SDI®?

Motivations and Behaviours Expectations Feedback
In addition to an understanding and self- awareness of individual and team motivations, the SDI® acknowledges that we will often behave in different ways. It shows us which behaviours are selected by individuals in order to achieve given goals in different situations with different people.

The SDI® illustrates which behaviours may not be valued by others, even if the individual believes they are strengths. Intention and outcome are often very different. The identification of strengths each individual tends to over-use, reduces the chances of triggering conflict in others.
The SDI® can record and measure expectations within a working relationship. This allows relational expectations to be clarified in a useful and safe way. Thus the user is provided with valuable learning opportunities and information.

Whether measuring satisfaction within a job position, team or relationship, understanding a new role or improving the quality of working relationships, the SDI® provides a valuable and different perspective.
Effective feedback is an important part of any personal development process. Traditional 360 feedback tools focus on skills, behaviours and capabilities. Enhance this process further through using the SDI®.

The SDI® explores a very different angle, seeking feedback on both intention and motivation. As this tool does not deal with skill, ability or competency, the results can be used as a safe and rich platform to explore what was 'meant' and what was 'received'. This in turn creates a greater depth of understanding and personal effectiveness in what we do and how we do it.
Employee Performance Evaluations

Any organisation where individuals must work together towards shared goals will find value and flexibility in the SDI®. The applications are so diverse that they seem to have nothing in common except for one thing: better human interactions leading to better outcomes. Practical examples of how the SDI® can be applied include;

360 Degree Feedback Assertiveness Training Board Development Career Development Change Management
Communication Conflict Management Customer Service Diversity Training Emergency Response
Team Development Leadership Training Organisational Culture Performance Expectations Project Management
Supervisory Skills Sales Training Strategic Planning Team Building Time Management
