Psychometric Tests
For all staff
Critical Test Battery (CRTB2)
These tests, which assess verbal and numerical ability, are designed to help your company:
- recruit for all posts
- identify management potential
- train and develop your staff
They take 40 minutes each to complete and are available on-line or in pencil and paper format.
The battery consists of two tests: Verbal Critical Reasoning (VCR2) and Numerical Critical Reasoning (NCR2):
Verbal Critical Reasoning (VCR2) This test directly assesses the ability to understand semi-technical reports and accurately draw logical conclusions and inferences from this information. Consequently it forms a key assessment device for all managers and professionals who need to:
- interpret written reports
- synthesise essential points
- make decisions
Numerical Critical Reasoning (NCR2). This test directly measures the ability to understand and critically evaluate a wide range of numerical information presented in tabular form, and accurately use this information in a logical way. Consequently, it forms a key assessment device for people in managerial and technical positions who need to:
- Understand financial, numerical and statistical data
- Analyse financial, numerical and statistical data
- Draw conclusions from financial, numerical and statistical data
- Action plan based on financial, numerical and statistical data
General Ability Reasoning Test (GRT2)
These tests, designed to assess the reasoning ability of all your staff whatever the level of their education, are designed to help your company:
- assess minimum ability levels for specific job roles
- identify staff who are likely to benefit from further training and development
- identify those staff with promotion potential
The tests take approximately 28 minutes each to complete and can be administered on-screen or in pencil-and-paper format.
They consist of three sections, Verbal (VR2), Numerical (NR2) and Abstract (AR2) reasoning:
Verbal Reasoning (VR2) measures basic vocabulary, verbal fluency and the ability to reason using words.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in clerical, administration, junior sales, customer service, marketing, journalism.
Numerical Reasoning (NR2) measures the ability to use numbers in a logical, efficient way.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in accounts, administration, retail, technical.
Abstract Reasoning (AR2) measures the ability to understand abstract logical problems and use new information outside the range of previous experience. This is the purest from of mental ability and is least affected by previous education and achievement.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in all sectors.

For Graduates
Graduate Reasoning Tests
These tests, which assess high level reasoning ability, are designed to help your company:
- recruit for graduate and management posts
- select for promotion
- train and develop your staff
The tests take approximately 28 minutes each to complete and can be administered on-screen or in pencil-and-paper format.
The tests consist of three sections, Verbal (VR1), Numerical (NR1) and Abstract (AR1) reasoning:
Verbal Reasoning (VR1) measures verbal fluency, vocabulary and the ability to understand and reason using words. This test is appropriate for all jobs which require a high level of verbal ability.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in senior sales, legal services, public relations, systems analysis, marketing, human resources, media and advertising, administration, secretarial.
Numerical Reasoning (NR1) measures the ability to use and understand numerical concepts, to reason using numbers and to perceive logical relationships between numbers. This test is appropriate for all jobs which require a high level of numerical ability.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in the financial services sector such as accountants.
Abstract Reasoning (AR1) Measures the ability to understand abstract logical problems and use new information outside the range of previous experience. This is the purest form of mental ability and is least affected by previous education and achievement.
Examples
Recruitment of staff for positions in technical and scientific posts or senior management positions which require logical and analytical skills.

Psychometric Tests
For all clerical and administrative staff
Clerical Test Battery (CTB2)
These tests, which measure a range of clerical aptitudes and abilities, are designed to help your company:
- recruit for clerical posts
- assess minimum ability levels for specific job roles
- identify clerical staff with promotion potential
- identify staff who are likely to benefit from further training and development
- train and develop your clerical and administrative staff
Tests can either be administered on their own in order to assess one specific aptitude, or the whole battery of tests can be administered to produce a candidate profile. The clerical battery also includes an optional on-screen typing and filing test.
This battery consists of 4 tests: Verbal Reasoning (VR2), Numerical Ability (NA2), Clerical Checking (CC2) and Spelling (SP2).
Verbal Reasoning (VR2) measures basic vocabulary, verbal fluency and the ability to reason using words. This test is appropriate for all clerical and administrative jobs, which require a basic level of verbal ability.
Numerical Ability (NA2) measures the ability to use numbers efficiently in clerical and administrative contexts. This test is appropriate for all clerical and administrative jobs, which require a basic level of numerical ability.
Clerical Checking (CC2) assesses the ability to quickly and accurately check both verbal and numerical information (names, addresses, code numbers and telephone numbers) against a target. This is a classic speed/precision test which assesses the ability to quickly and accurately code data.
Spelling (SP2) assesses the ability to correctly spell commonly mis-spelt words. This test therefore provides a quick and reliable measure of the candidate's ability to spell accurately.
Filing assesses the ability to classify names quickly and accurately into an existing electronic alphabetical filing system. This is an on-screen application only.

Psychometric Tests
For all engineering apprenticeships, craft apprenticeships or technical roles
The Technical Test Battery (TTB2)
The TTB2 measures the core skills required for engineering apprenticeships, craft apprenticeships and technical roles. These tests, which assess verbal and numerical ability, are designed to help your company:
- recruit for apprenticeships
- assess minimum ability levels for specific job roles
- identify staff who are likely to benefit from further training and development
- train and develop your staff
The tests are appropriate for those who have achieved a appropriate qualifications and who are being considered for a role in which technical ability is emphasised.
The battery consists of 3 tests; Mechanical Reasoning (MRT2), Spatial Reasoning (SRT2), Visual Acuity (VAC2)
Mechanical Reasoning (MRT2) measures the ability to understand mechanical concepts and physical principles in operation. This test involves selecting a diagram that correctly exemplifies an underlying principle. The test covers a wide range of areas (including optics, electrics, fluids and mechanics) so users can be confident that a broad ranging aptitude is being measured including mechanical comprehension.
Spatial Reasoning (SRT2) measures spatial ability, both from the perspective of visually constructing a three dimensional object and from visually relating an object to its pre-constructed patterned form.
The Visual Acuity (VAC2) measures the ability (and disposition) to work with highly detailed technical material such as wiring or circuit diagrams. The test involves following a single pathway through a complex maze and assesses visual and attentional capacity. The VAC2 has been specifically developed to assess technical and craft apprentices in roles which involve checking, repairing and replacing electrical/electronic circuitry and components. This is an on-screen assessment.
