Assessor and Verifier Awards
Do you have qualifications and a wealth of experience in your professional or vocational field?
Then you can use your experience to support others in their careers and get paid for it as well. It could well be the gateway to a whole new career.
What is an Assessor Award?
Basically it is an NVQ qualification in Learning and Development. Achieving the award enables you to assess candidates who are trying to obtain an NVQ award in your area of professional or occupational expertise. For example, you may be an experienced hairdresser, a bricklayer or an engineer who would like to assess the competence of others working in the same sector. The award will take you six months to complete and can provide a bridge into a career in training and development.
To commence the assessor award, you need to be supported by a recognised NVQ assessment centre. They will:
- provide you with two candidates who you will assess to gain your award,
- register you with the awarding body as ‘working towards assessor’
- give you with a staff induction and explain the quality control framework
The assessor award focuses on taking you through all aspects of the assessment cycle as well as providing you with a thorough understanding of NVQ’s. You will be assessed by producing a portfolio of evidence which meets the standards set in the award.
What is a Verifier Award?
It is a qualification in verifying the quality and consistency of the judgments made by assessors to ensure that the agreed national standards set by awarding bodies are met.
This too will take you six months to complete and qualifies you as an internal verifier. It is designed for people who have already qualified and worked as an assessor for a period of more than twelve months.
To commence the verifier award, you need to be supported by a recognised NVQ assessment centre. They will:
- provide you with two assessors who you will support and monitor as well as sampling their work
- register you with the awarding body as ‘working towards verifier’
- allow you to arrange an external verification visit and feedback the report to your assessment team
You will be assessed by producing a portfolio of evidence which meets the standards set in the award.
While you are studying for both the assessor and verifier awards, you must attend monthly training room based workshops. You will also be directly observed by your assessor while you are working with your designated candidate or assessor.
